Therapy for Veterans

What is therapy for veterans?:

Therapy for military veterans, often referred to as veterans’ mental health therapy or veterans’ counseling, is a specialized form of therapy designed to address the unique challenges and experiences faced by individuals who have served in the armed forces (i.e, combat stress, or PTSD). This therapy encompasses a range of approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), to address issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and the impact of combat trauma.

When you receive treatment for veteran experiences at The Hardy Clinic you may:

  1. Explore and process your personal experience with combat stress in a safe and confidential environment.
  2. Engage with a Trauma-Informed clinician who may educate you on the impact of trauma on the body, brain, and human experience.
  3. Identify your idea of a “fulfilling life” and collaborate with your therapist to develop SMART Goals to assist in working towards your desired lifestyle.
  4. Become equipped with effective coping strategies to manage symptoms of conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression.
  5.  Receive support in the process of reintegration into civilian life by addressing issues related to relationships, employment, and transitioning to a new chapter.
  6. Experience a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment in which to explore your current state and express your vulnerabilities.

You would benefit from this service if you:

  1. Experience vivid and realistic nightmares or flashbacks that make you feel as though you are somewhere else and unsafe.
  2. Experience irritability and/or anger outbursts, especially towards those you care about.
  3. Experience somatic complaints like headaches, stomachaches, or fatigues.
  4. Experience depression or apathy.
  5. Have difficulty sleeping, eating, or concentrating on a regular basis.
  6. Receive feedback from family and/or friends about not behaving like yourself.
  7. Have been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
  8. Feel numb, cut off from others, or like you have to be constantly on guard.
